Movies About Strong Women to Watch this Womenâs History Month
Women are great, and we should celebrate and support them every day of our lives in or out of West Lafayette, IN. This month is Women’s History Month, and we’re excited to celebrate that with you here on the Collegiate Communities Blog. Get excited to learn about women’s history and the issues many women face today by watching a movie about strong women. Watch in your apartment or on our community’s big screen TVs. Settle in and catch one of these must-sees!
Room (2015) — Drama
“A young boy is raised within the confines of a small shed.”
This tragic story compassionately and courageously portrays the struggle of a woman and her child held hostage by a kidnapper. Ma suffers much, including rape and abuse, and comes up with a plan to get herself and her son free. This poignant film will tear at your emotions, but the heartfelt performance will leave an impact.
Hidden Figures (2016) — Biography, Drama, History
“The story of a team of female African-American mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program.”
These women are prime examples of women who cannot be stopped, as much as everyone in their lives tries to bring them down. The characters face issues including racism and sexism, things we still must fight today. Everyone should watch this movie!
Wonder Woman (2017) — Action, Adventure, Fantasy
“When a pilot crashes and tells of conflict in the outside world, Diana, an Amazonian warrior in training, leaves home to fight a war, discovering her full powers and true destiny.”
Female superheroes are some of our favorite superheroes, and Diana Prince does not disappoint in this movie. She knows who she is and the values she stands for guide her life. We should all learn from and get inspired by Wonder Woman.
Selena (1997) — Biography, Drama, Music
“The true story of Selena Quintanilla-Perez, a Texas-born Tejano singer who rose from cult status to performing at the Astrodome, as well as having chart topping albums on the Latin music charts.”
Selena was and still is an icon to the Latino-American community. Learn her story and get inspired by her passion, drive, and courage to do what she loved. Her story may have ended in tragedy, but her legend lives on.
