Suggestions for a Successful 4th of July : 2020 Style
Collegiate Communities welcomes you to the month of July! Because Independence Day is right around the corner, we’re here to give you a few simple suggestions that will help set you up for success — even if your options for celebrating may look a little different this year. As you prepare to celebrate the 4th of July near your West Lafayette, IN apartment, consider the following tips:
Set Expectations
On a typical year during 4th of July festivities, it can be challenging to coordinate expectations so that the day remains anxiety and disappointment free for everyone involved. With coronavirus social gathering restrictions still at play this year, it might seem as though disappointment will be inevitable. However, that doesn’t have to be the case! Even if you won’t be attending any city-wide parades or firework shows, you can still choose to set expectations for the holiday with your small group of friends — practicing social distancing of course! — so that everyone’s top priorities are kept in mind when planning out the day.
Stay Hydrated
Since the weather in July is typically quite hot, make sure to stay as hydrated as possible. Though you may not be attending your typical community festivities, you’ll need to be mindful of any time spent outdoors all the same. For starters, make sure you’re drinking enough water throughout the days leading up to the 4th as well as on the day itself. Next, pay attention to how much sun you’re getting and wear enough sunscreen so you don’t feel dehydrated or exhausted from the heat. If your festivities involve alcohol, be mindful of how much you drink, and get enough water in between drinks so that it doesn’t catch up to you later.
Be Flexible
Lastly, don’t forget to be flexible and have fun. This year more than ever, expect your plans to change and your expectations to fall short of reality. Do what you can beforehand to ensure that you get to spend your day how you want it to, but when things look a bit differently on the day of, don’t be afraid to go with the flow and find joy in whatever way you can.
